Natural hazards research is an elementary component to guide and support the mplementation of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction and its framework or action (2005-2015), using a multidisciplinary and integrated approach. At uropean level, research will contribute to related environmental Commission activities, such as the European civil protection programme, and to other European ommission research programmes more related to crisis management for natural isasters. It is therefore necessary to consider a robust and comprehensive framework hat enables, for individual hazards and for multi-hazards, the integration of the risk reduction chain. Such an approach is necessary for any risk management as well as for
the development of prevention and mitigation strategies.
